I'd say that's about right!

Just one! Broke the tip off my 8 wt. when I was building it at the first rod bash. Lee S and Charlie were very good in helping me fix it. I guess I now have the only 8'10" - 8 wt. in existence.

First "semi-nice" rod I ever bought. Redington RS2. Was showing my students in my High School History class how far a fly rod bent. Showing off, ya know? Bent it almost double, and SNAP!!!! Now my 4 pc. rod was an 8 pc. rod. Thank God students graduate from high school...for 3 years I couldn't live that one down.

"Come in", cried the king with a trout, trout, trout.

Oh I'd say about five or six.
Lets see I've used several methods.
Slamming them in a door works pretty good.
Then of course there's the old pulling on a snag to hard.
I guess I'd have to say falling down an embankment on my way to the river is my all time favorite.
Although I do like Willie's dog method but I'll leave that for him to tell.

I've broken one rod twice and two other rods once each.
The one I broke twice, on both occasions it folded as I started the backcast while fishing a rather small dry fly, the water resistance on the fly line was enough. ( Loomis 1084-4 IMX, early addition )
Another rod broke when I hung the fly on a rock behind me during the forward acceleration on a double haul....I was tuckered out, dropped my backcast and paid the price. That was Sage a 697-4 XP.
Then there was that day on the finger reefs south of Pescadero. It was a lousy November day and I tried to punch a cast into the foam with a nasty cross wind. I ended up putting a 2/0 point first, right through the blank, just above the cork grip ( and my thumb ). That was with my late great Sage 7100 RP.
Better days, Dave

hmmm...let's see. I've only broken a couple. I've lost two rods - both in Alaska. Setting up camp and breaking down camp every day and well...sometimes you forget something.
I've broken rods in the trunk of someones car (I guess I shouldn't put it in there like it's the shell of my truck), high sticking a silver, and then the general "ooops - I knew I should have put it back in the case so the cooler wouldn't slide over on it! )
So probably less than half a dozen broken rods...oh!...there was also the one I broke while backpacking in the sierra...while trying to get shelter under a tree in the thunderstorm. That's when I saw Shawn do the 80 meter dash in 1.8 seconds.

Let's see...
Last 4 wt. broke by driving off with it on the top of the car.
same 4 wt. broke by putting it in the back of a friend's truck and the tailgate breaking it.
other 4 wt. broke... manufacturer defect, reel seat fell off.
One 7 wt. by falling down a little mini-cliff.
A 5 wt.... not sure... thing just snaped in half while fighting a fish.
5 wt. by falling down on a little gravel slope.
7 wt. by closing it in a car door.
7 wt. by driving off with it on the top of my car... this one was SacDrifter's!
7 wt. by trying to get a snag undone... broke right at the cork... but it was an old rod.
Yeah... I am the reason they are stopping unlimited warrenties.
