Mine would have to be without a doubt one outing to Oregon's Cascade lakes. I've posted this before so I'll keep it short. We set out to fish Hosmer, Crane Prairie, Davis and end the trip by mountain-biking around Waldo Lake.
We left my forerunner in the Waldo lake parking lot and took off for a all day ride around the lake. When we got back to the car someone had broken in and cleaned us out; rods, reels, gear bags, sleeping bags, tent, backpacks, wallet, my prescription glasses...damn near everything.
Minus my wallet and prescription glasses my brother had to drive. We put the Mt bikes, both high end bikes, on top of the forerunner and took off for Bend down the Cascade Hwy. The sun had just about dropped out of sight and as I sat in the passengers seat compiling a list of stolen items when I happened to look up just in time to see a huge buck break through the brush and onto the Hwy.
The next thing I knew we're off the road with the forerunner on its side looking at each other in disbelief. The forerunner was totaled, the bikes were pretty much history and so ended another lousy day in paradise...
Sorry for reposting this, it was some time ago, I guess I just wanted to make sure I was still at the top of the "Damn, you're kidding" list.
As memory serves, which often times it doesn't, the last time I posted this story Carpy posted that he'd had a tough day because his wife had asked him to clean up his fly-tying area. And he got more sympathy from you knuckle-heads than I did. Admittedly we did have some fun with that though...
Any fly-fishing nightmares you'd like to share?
Pete
