Worst fishing trip ever.... 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Mine would have to be without a doubt one outing to Oregon's Cascade lakes. I've posted this before so I'll keep it short. We set out to fish Hosmer, Crane Prairie, Davis and end the trip by mountain-biking around Waldo Lake.

We left my forerunner in the Waldo lake parking lot and took off for a all day ride around the lake. When we got back to the car someone had broken in and cleaned us out; rods, reels, gear bags, sleeping bags, tent, backpacks, wallet, my prescription glasses...damn near everything.

Minus my wallet and prescription glasses my brother had to drive. We put the Mt bikes, both high end bikes, on top of the forerunner and took off for Bend down the Cascade Hwy. The sun had just about dropped out of sight and as I sat in the passengers seat compiling a list of stolen items when I happened to look up just in time to see a huge buck break through the brush and onto the Hwy.

The next thing I knew we're off the road with the forerunner on its side looking at each other in disbelief. The forerunner was totaled, the bikes were pretty much history and so ended another lousy day in paradise...

Sorry for reposting this, it was some time ago, I guess I just wanted to make sure I was still at the top of the "Damn, you're kidding" list.

As memory serves, which often times it doesn't, the last time I posted this story Carpy posted that he'd had a tough day because his wife had asked him to clean up his fly-tying area. And he got more sympathy from you knuckle-heads than I did. Admittedly we did have some fun with that though...

Any fly-fishing nightmares you'd like to share?

Pete

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

Striper fishing at San Luis early in the morning on the day of my wedding...didn't catch any fish, and we thought we got the boat back to the ramp in plenty of time to make it back to San Jose for the 4 PM wedding, however my fishing partner/boat-owner/driver left the lights of the vehicle on...dead battery...AAA from Los Banos to start and made it to the church within 20 minutes of the event...only reason that the event occured is my fishing partner (who left the lights on) was my future father-in-law.

You're correct sir...that was the 1st Mrs. PGW (known now affectionately as Queen Kong)...I learned from my youthful mistake and am lucky that the current Mrs. PGW understood the importance of the relationship between prime Steelhead fishing and North Coast Redwoods...even during a Honeymoon...making that the best fishing trip I've been on!

Boy I didn't learn at all.

The 2nd Mrs and I tied the knot on opening day of trout season. Even though the day should move around its close enough that going fishing is out of the question.

As for bad fishing trips - none really, unless of course you are counting the time I totaled my fishing buddies truck, but hey, that was his fault for letting me drive his car. It was not that bad from my perspective as we were returning from fishing, not going to...

With that picture...your statement freeks me out. I remember you as a good guy from the south bay, not a weirdo from Santa Barbara or Dubai.

Pete, that is indeed a bad trip... don't think I can compete with that... I usually have things go bad at the end of a trip where the fishing wasn't so bad... do things like leave rods on top of cars...

I hit a deer on 89 going about 60 after a magical day on the Pit where I and a couple of friends each had about 40 fish to hand... after that my car was called the Deer Slayer.

short of someone chiming in with a story of extreme bodily injury to themselves or a family member/friend, you win.
