At last, someone who has actually READ the question! You may be right, however, remember that I wanted the line to land at a 90 degree angle (I cast so that the rod tip ended up pointed directly across the river (roll cast)), but at the end of the cast the line ended 180 degrees away from the start.
Also, remember the windcutter is a weight forward, not a double-taper.
Doug, whether you are doing a single spey, double spey, snake roll, it really doesnt matter. They all are just a way to get your fly
1) approximately a rod length away from you.
2) directly between you and where you intend to cast.
The important things are
1) 180 degree principle, if you intend to cast straight in front of you, your anchor should land straight in front of you (180 degree principle, anchor should be between you and where the target is)
2) anchor, a couple of feet should be on the water when you cast, but not too much
3) Swoop back creating a d loop, wait till you feel the d loop load the rod, then smothly go into forward stroke.
4) I think your problem is in the forward stroke. Get a crisp stop at about 1, gradually increase power and get a STIFF STOP at 1 am. I am guessing your stroke is too long, and you are stopping at about 3 and getting a big loop. Is your loop kind of fat? High in the air?

I am on flat view -- it's just a bunch of posts one after the other, nicely lined up at the left hand edge of the screen, as far as I can tell. The only way to tell that your post is a repsonse to mind (as far as I can see) is because you're directly answering my question.

You guys are gettin' outrageous. Seriously though, or not so seriously, it's certainly hard to tell what the problem is without takin' a looks see at the problems. Maybe a new cast has been invented.

When I do a 90 degree "simple" spey with approx. 30-35 feet of line,(with a 9' 8 weight Scott A2 and 8 wt. windcutter)if I use just a little too much energy the line goes directly upstream and lands in a limp pile.
Am I A) not using enough line,
using too light a line,
or C) something else?
Hi Doug, with odd posts like people writting with a lisp, did anyone here actually help you out?

Don't worry, it's probably only offensive to a wanna-be Fly Rep who left Chico for points North.
