Stanislaus question and a lil bit o' non ff related info 17 Years, 4 Months ago
My band is heading up to sonora to play The Lumber Yard brewery co. this friday evening. A few of us are were hoping to fish the stan, but I can't find online when the season officially closes. Anybody know?

Also come out to the Lumber Yard if you live in tuolumne and have a few beers while u listen to my mediocre band.

I think we're gonna head up to the truckee early that morning. (playing the biltmore casino that night! boo ya) But thanks for the invite. I'm sure we'd have better luck on the tuolumne river, but I've never fished the truckee and am anxious to give it a try.

where on the stan? below goodwin ends 10/31 (you better have a bay/delta stamp), everything above is general trout season (11/15) and beardsley afterbay is open all year

not wanting to step on any previous poster toes, but if you want to fish the north fork from sonora you won't make it in 15 minutes. its 15 minutes to angles camp. you're looking at at least another 20 to get to parrots ferry or at least an hour or more to road side accessible water above arnold.

post a report if you go

I thought Stan was open all year. Or maybe it was always closed for Salmon from Oct31 - Dec 1? Something like that?

I think as we get older and forget we should get a break on all these regs. Too damn confusing.

Everything open all the time, always C&R.

In regards to R.B.'s comment. 17 Years, 4 Months ago
If there weren't a bunch of idiots out there who over fish when nobody's looking I'd totally agree. I had a customer the other day who went fishing up north at a certain lake. He said he and his buddies each caught over twenty trout. And they kept all of them!! more than 60 trout taken. He's braggin to me about this. Worst part is they had to leave the next day and the fish all went to waste. I wanted to grab this dude and shake some sense into him.

On another rant, I work next to a creek that is closed for fishing except for a few months out of the year for the steelhead run. It's amazing how many people I catch down there about to throw there line in to catch baby steelhead during the summer. I had one guy with a fly rod and line, but with power bait on the end of it. what a knob

Sammy,
You are right that most are "idiots". By that I mean they simply do not know the regs. Heck, even those of us who follow them religously can't keep up. Our job is to educate.

I looked at your profile and saw you are young. Good for you. May I suggest when you find those folks "down by the river" that you approach them with humility and calm and offer to teach rather than reproach. It is amazing how most people will react (and even more amazing how 1% will really lose it).

Point is, most people are good and will do the right thing if they are properly informed. And you are definitely doing the right thing protecting our steelhead fisheries. I grew up fly fishing for steelhead on the coastal rivers of the bay area. It is tough stuff - really tough for the fish.

And the Stan has been poached pretty regularly over the past few years, with many confrontations and property damage to those who call them on it.

Since I am in the process of getting a Single Action Revolver perhaps I can start to carry that and help shape people's views on conservation :teeth
