Davis Lake poisoning a success? 17 Years, 4 Months ago
I'm not celebrating yet but let's hope this is the beginning of the end for Pike in Lake Davis

Lake poisoning seems to have worked to kill invasive pike - as reported by SF Gate
(10-02) 10:46 PDT Portola (Plumas County)

There may be something that is still alive in Lake Davis, but crews with the state Department of Fish and Game have not yet found it.

Game wardens in an armada of 25 boats poured 16,000 gallons of the fish poison rotenone into the scenic Sierra reservoir a week ago in an attempt to exterminate a voracious invader known as the northern pike.

Some 41,000 pounds of dead fish have since been scooped from the lake at the northern headwaters of the Feather River in Plumas County. The carefully hatched plan was to kill virtually every living thing in the high Sierra lake and its tributaries, assuring that the pike would be exterminated.

Well, I hope they got them all. Some day I would like to fish that lake when it is the way it was before the Northerns got in there, which was before I ever fished it.

Kill them pike and eat 'em....

The lake used to be such a great fishery. Hope they kill all the pike so we can get our trophy lake back!

I sure as hell hope they got 'em all...I talked to a F&G warden yesterday who was on his way out to the Lake doing night patrol. He wasn't from this area so the lake was new to him.

My understanding was anything with gills or requiring oxygen in the water was toast. He said when he walked the shores on the west side of the lake after the treatment he saw a bunch of aquatic bugs swimming around the shore line. I was surprised as I thought the rotenone would really clean the lake of just about everything. When I asked him what they were he said he wasn't sure.

I think the real surprise was the number of bullheads or what I'll call catfish that were found in the lake. I heard from a friend that the percentages looked something like this; one percent trout, eight percent pike with the remaining percentage primarily bullheads.

Hopefully they will be successful and we'll get our lake back.

41,000 pounds of pike equals 4916 gallons of pike, if pike has a density simlar to water. Maybe I'll start tying wiggle damsels again in a few years.

Those are deadly flies mike...one of the best damsel ties I've seen. It'd be nice to get you all back up here again.
