The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

I was supposed to be in the Redding area lake fishing, but septic problems (my house not me)caused me to cancel the trip. To console myself I fished our community lake for bass yesterday. After a few productive hours it was time to head in. "One more fish," I thought as I cast to a weedline with the trolling motor on low. Standing up while casting and trying to adjust my bass buddy type boat's seat, I stumbled and fell backward out of the boat. Did I mention the trolling motor was on? I lost a rod, reel, line, and my car keys. The good news? I didn't loose my life. I was wearing an inflatable PFD. I've been lax in the past about wearing a lifejacket while fishing from a boat because they were hot and uncomfortable to wear. The inflatable PFD I bought a month ago is shaped like a small fanny pack. You hardly notice its there. I've learned my lesson. I will never get in a boat again, including my pontoon boat, without wearing a PDF. I hope I learned a lesson not just for me, but for you too. Be safe out there. By the way, has anyone used their swap flies yet? Mike

Good news that nothing really bad happened, also good advise.

I still haven't been out to try those great flies, maybe tomorrow.

Good to here your OK,,,,I should probably wear a pfd more
since I feel wobbly more and more as I age and last Summer
I was fishing with my six y.o. Grandson while standing on
the center bench seat the boy switched on the trolling
motor about tossed me over the side but I managed to
stay in the boat.
I had the boat all rigged and ready to head to the lake
then that darned Honey do list got in the way.
On my way to the hardware store I stopped to talk with
Herb at the fly shop, he said the aqautic wasps are starting
to show and I think that glue ant will work well as an
imitation. The boat is still hooked to the pickup.
