A Report 12 Years, 4 Months ago
Took a three-day weekend ending on my birthday, today, to go fish. My girlfriend is in Africa so what the hell. Went up Saturday fished the Little Truckee and Prosser Creek. Caught a few fish, but the weather was chilly and windy and drizzly on and off. Stayed in Nevada City and drove up to the North Yuba and Haypress Creek--fished both on Sunday, just NY for a few hours today. Fishing was great both days, nothing big, but busy all the time, all on dries. There are fish in every pool, and with a 2 wt. it's plenty of fun. Weather was much better, too. Saw a few folks fishing while driving, but for a weekend where no lodging was available in the Sierra City area I expected to see more folks out. Love fishing up there.

Typical colorful North Yuba fish. Blurry and chopped off picture, but I was hurrying to get the fish back in the water.

Absolutely beautiful fish. Its strange that I live just a short distance from there (Plumas County) and I rarely fish the North Yuba. Gotta give it a try one day soon. Thanks for the report.

I've poked into both, but haven't spent much time. I'm interested in that Downie Creek/Pauley Creek/Lavezolla (sp) Creek area. Downieville seems a little overrun these days, so I usually end up moving on through towards Sierra City.

LAVAZOLLA 12 Years, 4 Months ago
I fished Lavazolla a few weeks back and although it was still a little high it was still a gem to fish. Talk about colorful fish! I don't mind writing this here as it has already been written in California Flyfishing and it takes a good walk to fish it well. One of my favorite places to fish and I have never been disappointed in any aspect of the "fishing"...the beauty and quite is astounding, the fish, while never large, are wild and wary. I typically go to the bridge, about 3 to 4 miles out of town fish down then walk back along the bike trail above the creek. In four trips there I have seen two others fishing and both within 100 feet of the bridge. I strongly recommend it as a place to fish.

Pauley is also a gem. Somewhat like Lavazolla though my fishing there has been a little less private (I've probably seen 10 people there over four trips...) and the fish have not cooperated as much. Still, beautiful and worth the walk.
