Last year’s fall mini-bash at Davis Lake was a good time, and the fishing wasn’t bad either. AND, given the size of the fish we caught this spring (17-21 inches) and the fight in them, this fall’s fishing should be even better. These fish will have grown an inch or two or three since then and will be less selective with winter coming on. They generally go on the feed big-time once the water temperature begins to drop into the 50’s.
So, let’s do it again!
When: October 4th thru 6th, 2013
Where: Lightning Tree campground (this is the last one up the east side road).
Camping info:
No reservations are possible at this time of year, so everyone is on his own. But at this time of year, there should be no problem getting a spot. There will be some sort of sign or poster at camp entrance to let folks know where everyone is. As you get sites, please sign in.
Many (half) of the sites in Lightning Tree are double sites, capable of holding 4 vehicles (or one vehicle w/trailer and 2 other cars, for example).
Cost is $21 for single, $42 for double. Golden age passport holders are half price. Price is total cost for site---there’s no charge for extra vehicles. So find and old friend and double up!
Food:
Everyone do your own thing. Except: Friday and Saturday nights, BBQ and pot luck. Bring something to bbq for yourself and a small side dish to share (hor d’oeuvres, bread/butter, salad, dessert, etc. etc).
Miscellaneous:
Bring a chair and stories for the campfire, and wood for the fire and maybe some briquets for the bbq. If the weather looks rainy, maybe some tarps and ropes also.
Fishing Info:
5 or 6 wt rod. Floating lines for emergers and indicator fishing. Intermediate lines for buggers, etc. Flies: blood midges, pt’s and hare’s ears, sheep creek nymphs and stayner ducktails, wiggle tails and buggers in rust, black and dark olive. These are only basic suggestions, but tried and true in this lake.
