Steelhead Fly 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Last year about this time someone put up a picture of a burlap fly. All I can remember is it had burlap with possible some red. I did a search but can't find the thread. Could someone be kind and post the receipe for that fly. Thanks

The Burlap is a fairly old pattern (for this day and age). It was generally tied on a #2 to #10 wet fly hook. Thread, Grey or Black. Original tail was Grey Natural Deer Hair, Hook Gap in length out past the bend. More recent is Grizzley Hackle. Hackle is Grizzley tied wet fly style to the hook point. No wing. Caught many fish both on the coast and inland on this fly.

And another good variation is a longer grey marabou tail.

Charley,

Thanks. I wasn't sure bout the hackle or tail, the only part I remembered was the burlap.

The fly you saw on the board was possibly a burlap stone fly nymph.
