Hey Camera Guru's??? 17 Years, 4 Months ago
I mentioned on the old board that my brother gave me a Canon D30. It sat for almost a month, but I pulled it out yesterday to take pictures of the Blue Angels.

My first impression was this thing is big and bulky. But after looking at the pics I am impressed! I left everything on Auto and took shots that I thought would fool it, like into the sun. Nope.

What is most amazing to me (an avowed Nikon guy) is I always remember my Nikon pics were also just a little sharper and more refined than the Canon. I found absolutely no limitations to this Canon. It even shoots quickly.

I did mess with it and left the shutter curtain open one night, and so there are a few dust spots in images, but I will post once I load the SW on the computer. My wife and kids thought they looked like "professional" shots.

Score one for the Canon side!

Good thing I did not take it fishing Friday, as I took an unexpected, refreshing mid afternoon dive.

how come yours is bluer and sharper? Now I am bummed. What kind of camera did you use. I thought this Canon was top of the line???

My images are raw, did you post process? Oh yeah, and I was shooting at Low Res (less than 1Mb per image, so not using the 8 or 11 Mp available).

My pic was Sunday right near Fort Mason at end of Marina Green.

Don't be bummed. I am shooting with the new Pentax K10D, which I must say is an amazing camera. I was using a polarizer to bring out the colors and reduce the glare. I was also shooting with the highest quality jpeg setting.

The Canon 30D is a great camera that you can push as far as you want. The reason that I chose the Pentax, was for it's ease of use and the full weather sealing. What I didn;t like about the Canon was that so many of the features are burried in the menues.
