Pete,

The girls and I are so sad to hear about Sammie. Both of you will be in our prayers!

I hope the you and Sammie can spend some quality time together this last month so the memories can help you get thru this difficult time. We had a health scare with Sade and I just dread that time when she's no longer part of our lives

Thanks one and all... 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Your thoughts, well wishes and condolences are deeply appreciated. It's nice to see this kind of response when life comes along and hits you over the head. This isn't the first time I've had to say good bye to one of our four legged friends and it won't be the last....but that sure doesn't make it any easier. If there is something going on after this brief visit here on planet earth she'll be among some very good friends.

Bjorn I hope that boxer of yours pulls through this rough time and everything works out for the best.

R.B. I believe the eye contact issue with your dog is part of the dominance hierarchy - direct eye contact toward the leader in the canine world is disrespectful - he's just showing that he not only loves you but respects you as well.

Windknots thanks for the compliment on the picture - old Sammie puts on quite a coat during the winter months up here.

I'm sure gonna miss her....but she'll always be aboard

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

Geez Pete, Its hard to know what to say. We lost a Golden to cancer a few years back. Hurt like hell. She had been a great friend for many years. Lots of great times together....and always that unconditional love. Dogs are far more perceptive than many people realize, unless you are one of the fortunate ones who really lets a dog into your life and your heart. I only met you and Sammie once, but I could tell you fall into that later category. Goldens are my favorite breed, so personable. (But don't mention that to my current fishing partner who is a shepard husky mix and just as sweet as any golden I have shared time with.)

I know there is really nothing that me or anyone else can say that takes the pain away. But obviously from the posts, there are many of us who have shared similar pain. It seems to be one of life's injustices, that dogs can bring such joy into our lives, but they never get to hang around for long. Still....You just gotta love em.

Be well.

So sorry to hear that. How am I going to know it's you out on Davis??? Tough to loose such a true friend. They ask so little and give so much.

Pete,

I am so sorry to hear that. I grew up with 2 Goldens and I just love them, what a great breed. I am glad that you will have time to spend time with him over the next few months. I'm sure both of you will really appreciate every pat on the head, scratch of the ears, and rub of the belly. My two yellow labs and I are sending all our good karma and healthy thoughts your way, this is never and easy time and I wish you the best.

We seek for slumbering trout
And whispering in their ears
Give them unquiet dreams;
Leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams
