If you put your ear to my upstairs window..... 17 Years, 3 Months ago

....with it's distant ocean view, you can hear the steelhead out there cheering on the rain that is just beginning to fall.
Took a drive yesterday with Olfa to check out the local rivers to the south. Neither the Gualala nor the Navarro have broken through yet. The Garcia is still very low at Hwy.1. I am hoping the rain starting now is going to be at least as much as we got Thursday and Friday. My guess is that much rain and with the tides we have coming the mouth will open at the Navarro.
Later today I will take a walk up the Noyo and see what is happening there.

I haven't done it for a while - but I really like "doing the loop" on those rivers and checking things out...amazing how the rivers can change from day to day. The fishing is an added bonus.

Rain?! That's GREAT!!! I had no idea that any rain had fallen. Last I heard, everything except the Klamath/T and Smith were closed.
Isn't this a bit early for rain? I thought rain usually started in late October.

A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.

Coastal rivers are still closed. You can call 707-944-5533 for a report on rivers in Mendo, Sonoma, etc, counties, or 707-442-4502 for the north coast (Eel, Smith, Van Duzen, Mad, etc). We need a lot more rain before they will open them up, but from all reports it is on the way. However, with the acorn crop that is out, and other indications, we may just get so much rain that we may have to plow for steelhead once it gets started in ernest.

That is such nice country. Haven't really been up there consistently since my brother worked for the Fort Bragg Fish and Game Office....Abs, thanksgiving coffee and some place in Noyo Harbor that had a great clam chowder. I really gotta get back up there some time.

Acorns 17 Years, 3 Months ago
|

You Said it! I have lived in this house 5 years with 6 fully mature (90+) year old Oaks, and I have not seen acorns like this! I was thinking about supplementing my grocery budget, Native-Style. (Prolly would get sick, from doing it wrong.) No wonder many friends have gotten skunked on deer, but found lotsa hogs. Food all over the place.
The correlation between future rain and acorn fall, is true? or is anectdotal?
Thanks
Mike

"I do!", said the Duke, when the sun sank low, "Get out!! It's time to fish"
"Come in", cried the king with a trout, trout, trout.
"Tonight, we fish in the tub!"
