The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Okay, leave it to an old guy to get lost in the soup. This is different. I can see it will take some getting used to. Lot's of new stuff and pages to get lost in. But what the heck, the only constant in life is change! I did have a couple of questions though.

On the "old" board, the threads I had read, turned a different color so old guys like me who have no memory left would know where we've already been! Is that something I can do here? The preview preview button doesn't seem to work either, unless I'm doing something wrong (probably). Can't close it and I lose the message. Thank goodness for cut and paste!!!

Also the thingie that tells who's on the board right now only seems to show up on the left side of the "Home" page. It would be cool if it showed up on the campfire page too. Or other main pages.

I really liked the profile page we had on the old board that people could write something about themselves. I read a lot of those to get to know people a bit. Can we do that here? Is there a way to maybe "cut/paste" the information from the old page to the new profile? Another item for us "old-timers" with minimum memory. I only have 5 brain cells left and 3 of those are dedicated to bodily functions.

I think I already answered one of my own questions (but I could be wrong). Down at the bottom of the page it tells who's online. So what was that other list of people/pictures on the HOME page?

Good question! The names you see on the Front Page (or Home page) are people who are logged into the site and they might be looking at something besides the message board itself (like an article or profiles etc.). The names at the bottom of the "forum view" are people who are reading the message board itself. Clear as mud?

Also - you mentioned the profile writeup - that's something that we need to add. New features include a "signature" (which shows up under your posts), but the ability to write detailed information needs to be added. I'm keeping a list - this might get added sooner rather than later - thanks for the input.

Okay, got some info from experimentation. Seems when you open up some pages (such as preview), there is a "close window" button. I'm guessing this is so you can just go back to the original page. However, it don't work dude! Just sits and stares at you and if you close it with the "back" button on the tool bar, the message is gone! Gotta start all over unless you highlight ahead of time so you can copy/paste it back in. I know I ask alot of questions, but what do you expect from an old guy??? I'm still using whiteout on my monitor!

I have not heard of that problem yet - the preview is a bit different than the old board. You can just close that window (the preview window) and the original message will still be there. Don't hit the back button. There is an issue with the centering of the text - it will be fixed.

This is good info - I never thought about that scenario. Don't hit that back button!...just preview/close/preview/close/post.

Let me know if you still have trouble with it.
