I love my felt soled boots as much as the next guy, but are they helping to spread unwanted pests?

Wouldn't rubber soled boots with no nooks and cranies be easier to clean and thus be a better solution?

Do any wader makers currently consider the spread of pests in their design?

It seems that addressing this is not only a good idea but also rapidly becoming a necesary part of the sport.

Dick,

There is little doubt that Didymo at least is easily spread in felt soles, and They are harder to clean than rubber. I am and have been a fan of the LL Bean originated AquaStealth sole - even w/o studs, I find that they grip well on rocks and wet grass, AND they do not collect a thick layer of snow if you walk on snow.

New Zealand is getting really crabby about felt soled boots from what I have heard.

Good question. I just "retired" my last pair of boots a couple months early and saved them for such waters....now I let them dry for months before using them again ( I hardly fish those types of waters).

But its always good to think about.
