Lake Davis Pike Survey... 17 Years, 3 Months ago
I talked with a gal from the Department of F&G this past Monday regarding the pike at Lake Davis and learned something interesting about a survey that is being done on the lake. She said there is a bone in the jaw of the pike which once removed and cut in half you can tell how old the pike is. She said it's almost like counting the rings on a tree to determine its age.

The reason this is being done is to determine if there are any pike older than 10 years in the lake. If they found one older than 10 years then they would know that the 97' treatment wasn't complete. So far the oldest pike they've found was 8 years old, nothing older than that. In the event they don't find any pike older than 10 years it would be a strong indication that the current pike population was the result of planted pike after the 1st treatment.

If they were reintroduced after the 1st treatment I hope the SOB responsible is no longer around.

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

I am sure that Dawn, Kim, Betty, Jan, Janet, myself and the girls, of course could find a way to make that person wish they never heard of pike. Of course taking a clue from our government no torture would be involved.
