Vise Advice 17 Years, 7 Months ago
I am thinking of getting a Dyna King Baracuda Trekker Jr. Anyone have this vise or knowledge of it? I am sure this has been discussed before but would like to hear a few reviews before I drop $229 on a vise.

I've got the same vice and I love it. I bring it with me on all my trips. It's small size makes it very portable but that small size is also not a downside. I have the base not the clamp version and it's plenty heavy to sit still no matter what I'm tying.

I have the same vice and like it a lot. I had a Dyna King Prince that I handed down to my son. Now he uses my vice all the time. I think its a great vice for the price. I also purchased the pedalstal model.

I'm pretty sure Ukiah Charlie klnows a lot about these. Maybe we could get him to chime in on it?

I just bought my first vise about a week ago. I used the following article to narrow down my choices. I believe the article includes some observations about the Dyna King vises.

Can't help you out ion the Dyna King, but when I bought my vise I remembered I had narrowed it down between that and the Nor-Vise. Nor-Vise won out and I love it. Don't know what they are going for today, but mine was under $200.

I have one and it is sweet. Big flies and tiny flies. No complaints.

I have it and also love it. It's got a huge range of hook holding capabilities and it is absolutely rock solid once locked into place (so solid in fact that you can damage thinner hooks if you're not careful). I switched over from a renzetti traveler and have never looked back. Didn't like the O-ring reliance on the renzetti and the jaw tendency to slip out when using larger hooks.

Cheers!

UC doesn't know diddly.

That vise is a very good choice. All the quality vises out there today are superb pieces of equipment that will get the job done. There are bunches of people who swear by Dyna King, others who endorse Renzetti, and still others who are avid users of that spinny thingy vise...oh yeah, the Norvise . They are ALL right. You can't really go wrong with any of them. I have no ideas how many thousands of flies I've tied on my Dyna King and I have the vise you are considering for travel and it serves me very well.

You may have switched to "Chatteroy Charlie", but you'll always be "UC"!
