- best Oct caddis hatches I've seen are on the Upper Sac and McCloud. I can't advise on specific patterns (haven't tied any myself) but they all seem to have an orange body with dark thorax and the usual caddis pupae appendages. I've done better with the Oct Caddis pupae than the adult. But man, those adults are like a large, fluttering orange moth, up to about 1.5" long, and it's quite a site when they're actively laying eggs, although I'm surprised the trout don't key on them automatically at that stage, given the amount of protein in one gulp.
