The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

Looking for a little help here. I have been wanting to take my 5 year old fishing for a couple of months now, but mom has a broken foot, so we had to stay home and help with little sister. He has been bummin'.

My aunt has offered to help with the little one, and so now we can go fishing Saturday. I want to find some fish for him to catch, and have to drop them off in Placerville, so it is looking like Hwy 50 is the best choice.

Anyone have any luck (hatchery truck sightings, etc) with the South Fork recently? I am not looking for secret spots or places requiring ropes to get in to. I just want to get into some fish for him, so he doesn't get too bored.

I was thinking of the bridge that crosses behind the gas station just up from the silver fork confluence. maybe China Flat campground on the Silver Fork. I am open to suggestions, however...just wanna fish...and take a couple of pics. need a new avatar for the new site!

BTW -- I like the new site, now that I have gotten used to it.

I was up on the Silver Fork a week or so ago. The flows are extremely low. But there are still fish, mostly the tiny ones. China Flat has some easy access for small kids.

Upstream, the pocket water is still pretty good, but it would be difficult for a child.

I was on the Silver Fork last week and the flows seemed to be ok. It was my first time on that stream. I like it a lot & will spend more time exploring it in the future. :D
