Okay, now that I've spent over an hour and clicked through 100 threads and realized that I've seen most of them at least a half dozen times, is there a way to make "I've already seen these threads" turn a different color like the old board? Or some other way to "check" them off as read? When there are a gozillion threads it's hard to remember what I've already clicked through and read.
Do you have to "check" that little box below for every post you make to find out if someone has replied to your post?

Okay, I noticed the little fishy turns grey on a thread you have opened. However the subthreads don't have any little fishies on them until you open the upper thread again so there's no way to remember how many of these you have already seen (in case there may be some new ones) unless you reopen the upper thread again. Am I making any sense?

You're making sense. If you have a grey fish on a topic heading then the rest of the sub-topics have already been viewed by you. You don't need to click down into them to check.
With that said - there is an issue with the previously marked topics being marked "un-read" when you come back later to view the board. This is a known bug and will be fixed.

ps - there are other ways to view new posts...takes a bit of getting used to.
