New board slow? 17 Years ago
|
|
Hey GM et. al.
Like the look of the “new” NCFFB, but it seems to run slow on my Windows XP machine with a medium speed DSL connection. By slow I mean messages take 2-3 seconds to open and about as long to back out of. Not a big deal if you only read a few messages but if you want to read a long thread it’s cumbersome. I read several other message boards, e.g. Dan Blanton, Fish Sniffer, etc., and their messages pop up immediately so I don’t think this is a problem with my computer. I’m curious if other people have noticed this.

I don't generally notice an issue with that but I have noticed a lag from time to time. We can do some things to speed that up (it's on the list to be looked at). I do notice that with my Firefox browser it can run a little slower - however, I have my Firefox browser using some debug tools and this will certainly slow it down. One thing you might try doing is clicking the "Flat View" (it's a link on the dark bar towards the top) - this will show you all of the posts in one fell swoop.
Are you using Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Hi Greg-
Yep, using Firefox. Now that you've mentioned that could be a problem, I'll give IE a try and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
Fred

Hi Greg-
I didn't notice a significant difference with IE. However "flat view" is definitely more time efficient than "threaded view". For me that's looks like the way to go. Keep up the good work.
