The Rod Building Bash was a success. A very big success. I want to thank all of you for coming and giving it your best, the results were impressive indeed!!!! For those who were not there, you can't believe how much fun it was!
I especially want to thank Darti, SloFly, Lee S. and Greg for their instructional help. Darti has more enthusiasm and knowledge than I have seen in a long time and his unstinting giving of himself truly made me humble. SloFly and Lee S also taught me some things I hadn’t seen before and it was a learning experience for everyone there.
The first time rod builders were GREAT!!! Everyone on the board should have been there to see the concentration, determination, and pride they put into their first rods. I would be happy to fish any of the rods! You would be proud of our fellow fly fishermen on the board who did this. About 2pm Saturday we had to tear most of them away from the tables to grab a bite to eat for lunch, and it was no easy matter. Beerfly and Hud only left the rod wrapping jigs after snarling and almost biting those who were distracting them.
Carpy and Ms. Koi were nothing less than a #1 first class act. Their generosity, kindness, and open house made it possible for everyone to be comfortable. I can’t express my thanks adequately to them, or to the rest of the folks who were there, you all touched me in the very best way.
Thanks Beerfly for your efforts in organizing the food matters. Thanks also for making sure that I gained at least five pounds in two days.
I want to do this again, but with a limit of about ten wrappers. That will be future winter project. Another suggestion has been a casting clinic bash and a fly tying bash. Both would be a lot fun judging from the group that gathered this weekend. What a tremendous resource this board is for sharing knowledge, information, and experience.
Thanks to all. UC
