T
his fall I’ve been spending a lot of my free time loading up fly boxes with favorite steelhead patterns for the Klamath and the Trinity. A fly that I’ve had very good success with during the past several years is the Steelhead Poopah. This is an adaptation on the Tim Fox’s Caddis Poopah that I tie specifically for nymph fishing steelhead.

A
pril brings a decided change from winter to spring here in Northern California and many fly fishermen turn their thoughts to fishing top water flies for black bass! The April Fly of the Month features a Rubber Legs Lizard Gurgler pattern that I’ve used with very good success on Clear Lake. The pattern is an adaptation of a pattern tied by Larry Dextraze, which he tied for the Kelsey Bass Ranch. If you like to fish top water flies for bass, you've got to give this pattern a try!

February Fly of the Month - KH Mayan Warrior

For the February Fly of the Month, the NCFFB is pleased to feature Ken Hanley's KH Mayan Warrior pattern.  This fly is  a small shrimp and baitfish imitation designed to target saltwater gamefish, like Tarpon and Snook.  Though it is a saltwater design.....it also works fantastic for largemouth bass in the green or natural versions and river smallmouth bass also eat the orange version as well, imitating a small crawfish.
