Upcoming opportunities to help out with my fish study 17 Years, 2 Months ago
Hi all,

I have started on the field work for my thesis. I am doing a study of the
parasites of hardhead and Sacramento pikeminnow in the Feather River.
I could really use some help collecting fish. Fish are collected by angling, minnow traps,
and dip nets (but mostly by angling). I am looking for anyone who would be willing
to help by going fishing with me for these minnow species. I need about 3-5
people per weekend, but the more the merrier! I will be going out the weekends of
September 21-23, October 5-7, October 19-21, and November 2-4 (if needed). Anyone is welcome to
join me for any amount of time--no need to volunteer for the whole weekend
if you don't have the time. I plan on camping in the North Fork Feather
River canyon on these two weekends. There is no campground host where
I plan to camp, so no worries about late-night mini-bashing
If you would like to join me on either of these weekends, please post here
or drop me an email. I will set up a meeting place and times by email.

This is a fantastic opportunity for learning more about California's endemic species.
Hardhead and pikeminnow are fun and challenging to catch--it seems even more
challenging when one has to catch them (it seems like it is much easier to catch 'em
when one is pursuing trout!)

Thanks! Any help at all will be most appreciated!

Hey Dawn,

Put me down for a soft maybe. (How's that for helpful?) The dates are the same as the Bluegrass Festival in SFO.

I'll touch back with you if things change.

Well, I am going out some other weekends as well (this weekend, Oct 19-21, and possibly the first weekend in November). I may add weekends if I am not getting enough fish. It is tough to beat the free bluegrass in SF. Heck, at this point, even moral support and good wishes are gratefully accepted :teeth I will keep you posted on when I will be going. It would be fun to meet up sometime (even if not for fishing).

Schedule changes 17 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi all,

I have had some schedule changes. I will be sending out an email with more details (and catching up on all the emails I have received) later today to those who are on the email list.

I will now be collecting on the weekends of October 12-14, October 19-21, and October 26-28 (if needed). I may also add some weekday collecting dates. I will post more about that when I know for sure.

Thank you again to all of those who have helped, and to all those who can't help at this time, but have emailed encouragement. It is all appreciated! You guys are the best!

Going out this weekend to collect fish for my study 17 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi all,

I am going out this weekend to collect fish for my thesis study. I will be camping on the North Fork Feather Friday night and Saturday night and fishing during the day. If you are interested in joining me, post here, or drop me an email.

The fire restrictions have been lifted, so there will be a campfire.

Any help would be most appreciated! Thank you!

May the fish gods be with you...they certainly haven't been with me much lately! I'll be up 10/22 - 10/31. I don't imagine you'll be on the T then? Well, if you're driving on 299, I might actually be convinced to leave the river and take you out to lunch.

Good luck on your project!

A steelhead fly fisherman needs two qualities:
A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.

Only 2 more weekends left to help out! 17 Years, 1 Month ago
I am heading out this weekend (October 19-21) to collect fish on the North Fork Feather. Although it may rain on Friday, it looks like Saturday and Saturday night will be clear. If you are interested joining me in fishing for hardhead and pikeminnow, send me an email or post here. I will probably also be going out October 26-28. I hope you can join me for a weekend of fun (and different) fishing!

Last 2 weekends to help collect pikeminnow and hardhead 17 Years ago
Well, since I got skunked last weekend, I have to go out one more weekend than I had planned.

I will be on the North Fork Feather on the next 2 Saturdays, Oct 27 and Nov 3. If you are interested in joining me, drop me an email or post here. I will be camping both weekends. Any help would be most appreciated!

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far!
