Fly Fish the Surf? 13 Years, 7 Months ago
Everyone -

I am looking to have my first experience fly fishing the surf. I was wondering if there is anyone who would be willing to show me the ropes sometime between August 25th-28th? Professional guiding is a little out of my price range. I could pay for lunch and some flies if someone is willing to get their hands dirty with a newbie to surf fly fishing (I mainly fish trout).

Patze,

Well, you don't say where you live, or give us any idea of what range you are willing to hit to hit the surf.

Readers live from SLO to north of Arcata, and that is a haul.

This is a pretty good site:
http://www.zenflyfishing.com/

and you might try your local Fly Fishing Club. I know the Monterey Peninsula Fly Casters are having a surf [distance] casting gig this Sunday, and the Santa Cruz Fly Fishers have a club surf outing the first weekend [after the first Wednesday]of each month, with newbies welcome.

help us out here!!

tell us where you are near.

Good point!

I am going to be staying in Vallejo. So the SF bay area would be ideal.

Gotcha. Can't help in that area, but you might hear from someone who can.
