Secret Spots.... 17 Years, 3 Months ago
Do you still have any or have they all been discovered? I have a couple and a couple I can no longer get to - old age is a bear.

One high Sierra lake I've been fishing for years is still one of my favorites. I first fished it with my Dad many years ago...unfortunately at ninety-three he's no longer fishing. Now it gets a little bit of pressure but most of the people fishing it come up empty handed and I always console with them that there just aren't any fish left in it - but there are and some nice ones at that.

I guess some of my spots have changed over the years and aren't quite as productive as they once were - but I still fish them from time to time - probably more for the memories than anything else.

I guess secret spots aren't always just about the fishing.

Sonny, the black lab, ran ahead to make sure there were no gophers or jackrabbits in the way. If you don't give a dog a specific job, he'll improvise one for himself and it will invariably be fun. There's a lesson there.

Great stuff Paul. My father was like that...he wanted to take any unpaved road he could even if it didn't quite look like it was going in the right direction. He was smart though...he'd only do it when one of his three sons was with him. That is a good way to find those secret spots if you could only remember how to get back to them.

Good point...to me any spot can be a 'secret spot' as long as no one else is there when I am Or at least I don't see them and there aren't any signs of another person's passing. That's one reason why I always pick up any signs of human habitation when I'm fishing.

A good long walk can usually reward you with untouched water, and if nothing a nice walk w/nature.

A secret spot is a place that holds good memories....and as you so aptly put, it's not always about catch fish

Enjoy them while you still can....you only have so much maneuverability with that old walker.
