Hi all..hope your weekend was grand. Mine was, as there was no shopping in crowded stores involved!! For those interested in a first hand steelhead report from the Trinity River....read on. Others..(you know who you are) should hit the 'back' button and move on to other things....
Fished the waters betweed Steel Bridge Rd. and Steiner Flat Rd. yesterday with a friend. We were wade fishing. Weather was nice, with light rain starting about noon-ish. It was raining heavy by 1pm. Started fishing at 7:15, near Douglas City...first time I've ever caught 2 browns in a day ( and in the same run)on that river?!!?? I think they are starting to spawn, as both took egg patterns. Nice fish..one 17" and the other 22"...In the same spot, took a very nice 28" wild buck and 23" hatchery hen.(skinny and tired) Then moved to steel bridge, lost one there, and that was about it. Moved down to Steiner Flat Rd. Fished one of the ole' faithfuls...we caught(and released) 5 adult fish out of that single hole!! Never seen 'em stacked in there like that!! (Got some great pix of those fish. I'll try to post 'em when developed.) Got a few swinging out after the drift, which was cool...wasn't ready most of the time, and missed a hook-set or two. Went down river for two more adults and two nice half-pounders....then called it quits. We ended up leaving at about 1:45. Got really wet, and that wood stove was sounding exceptionally nice. Snowing heavily on the drive home. They need the water, though. More water, more fish!!
GM and Steve V...get ahold of me before you come up!! Stop by, lets do lunch. Or whatever... Ya'all know where to find me.
Happy and safe holidays to all,
Sacdrifter
