Saturday pleasantries on the Yuba.....(Long version)2/5/01 8:18 a.m.

Well, met up with Skirt and headed off the the Yuba, met up with Oldtrout and Psycho Don as planned and also had the pleasure of running into Stevie V and Tony just before they headed off downstream. We shot the breeze a bit, sampled a fine BC Robusto, got "freshened up" with a couple of Ales and we were off upstream. We settled about a 1/4 mile above the 20 bridge to start the day, I started off with a rubber legged golden stone and on my second or third cast, Bam!...a nice plump 15"-er,...immediately I turned to OT and told him that luck like that was not a good sign for me, and to break the hex I immediately dispersed 3 of the same pattern to OT to appease the fish gods and try and rid myself of the whammy which stuck with me for the remainder of the day as I was able to hook fish but not keep them on for more than a few head shakes....OT on the other hand ventured up to the next riffle with where Skirt and Psycho D were having some luck fishing up on top... OT had just released his 3rd fish on the fly that I gave him , his FIRST 18"+ fish of the day....Skirt, said he was fishing with a cripple( I told him he shouldn't talk about Psyco D that way) and having some luck up top...I watched a few fish rising but in no pattern or rhythym so I stayed fishing nymphs....LOTS OF STONEFLIES began to pop @ 12:00 along with smaller numbers of a gray#14 mayfly...crossed paths with OT again and we worked our way back to the bridge and met up again with PD and Skirt for lunch and libations while listening to "Wish You Were Here" in honor of all of the Boardites that chose to stay indoors shopping on such a BEAUUUUTIFUL!Winters day....After lunch , a few beers and many laughs we were mauled by a cloud of hungry mosquitos and hurried back down to the water to fish so at least getting chewed on didn't seem so bad....no luck for me, but a beautiful orangy purple sunset offset that....OT stuck another 18-20" fish and we all ended the day with a smile on our faces having had some success each on such a great day on the water...Steve V. and Tony returned at about the same time and were "Glowing" from the day they had down below.....Skirt talked us into stopping off at the Buckhorn in Winters for a few "HopPops"...we had a few beers and quite a few more laughs while discovering lots' o' common ground from our mis-spent youths and ressurecting some of the posts that brought smiles to us during the work week.......and while Oldtrout might be the oldest of the foursome, we are all within a year or two of each other and our taste in women rivals that of Mark Chamura!...that was about the time we parted ways and looked forward to the next time....Great trip, great time....glad to finally meet you guys!....HoDad
