My sincere condolences 13 Years, 9 Months ago
My sincere condolences, but remember, this place was once great and that's something.

"Rivers course through my dreams, rivers cold and fast, rivers well-known and rivers nameless, rivers that seem like ribbons of blue water twisting through wide valleys, narrow rivers folded in layers of darkening shadow, rivers that have eroded down deep in a mountain's belly, sculpted the land, peeled back the planet's history exposing the texture of time itself."
— Harry Middleton (Rivers of Memory)

"Each night as I haul myself onto the back of county garbage truck no. 2, there is a familiar wind, some thread of moonglow or starlight, a splatter of dark rain on my skin, something that stirs my memory, and again, if even for a brief moment, I am on some mountain river, some stretch of bright water, full of possibilities, including the possibility of trout, perhaps one that, when hooked, will haul me in and out of time, in and out of life's mysterious and frightening, wondrous and incomprehensible continuum, even to the edges of the universe." -- Harry Middleton

This is kind of sad.

In the "hay days" my only problem with this board was that it got too crazy here with too many people here that had no respect for others. It was the place to go to really bash anyone you liked though....

When a board gets too full of mean people who obviously enjoy ripping people it becomes way less effective as a informational portal.

Happy bashing...........

It's funny actually - I think everyone responding to this thread is someone who was around in the 90's on the Old Board. I haven't posted in a few years, but I still lurk from time to time. (Remember Blue Hat Lurker? He had my favorite handle ever.)

I definitely miss the Old Board when there were only 30-40 posters and you could actually keep up with everything. There was some bashing for sure, but there was a real element of humor that I miss a lot. Starshiptrouter's coining the term "Total Catch Rate" (TCR), followed by a lengthy mathematical explanation, for example, has stuck with me. I guess it was a tongue-in-cheek reference toward those who fish for "Bjornian Numbers" over experience. Some of those threads actually have influenced the way I fish quite a bit over the years, I suspect.

I do think you guys and gals had some of the largest fun looking outing I have ever seen pictures of though.

I was always wishing I could have gone on one of them but never made it.

I also wish I had made it to a bash, but just like this years GOOF I have a conflicting engagement committment. The pictures from the wedding were classic.

It has been quite awhile since I was a regular poster on the Board, but I have lurked in now and again just to see if any of the old gang are still around, and sure enough, there are still a lot of familiar names. But indeed the traffic of postings seems to have dried to a mere trickle compared to the one other forum I am part of, where new topics come up daily and most are pretty hotly discussed.

I am glad to see the bash is still a fixture, and regret not getting up to see everyone. It sure has swelled into a very large gathering judging by that photo.

As for me, fly fishing is now pretty much a thing of the past. I'll hit 87 next week, and everything that might be difficult about getting out on the water now looms ever larger, the currents swifter, the cobbles bigger and more slippery, and the fear of crashing ever greater. Three months ago my dogs on leashes took me for a catastrophic spill that wound me up with a fractured femur. Have only recently regained enough mobility to leave the trekking pole behind, but would sure appreciate coming back to be a bit more nimble and brisker in my stride.

Cheers to any of you who read this and remember me.

Peter,

Sorry about the femur. It's good to see you post.

I sorta think that reports of the death of the NCFFB Board are a bit premature.

Hey Carpy and Ed,good to hear from you!

Who said anything about my still drinking wine, Paul? I never unless given the chance. Sold the vineyard in '07, so now I have to buy it.

Saw Ric Ferrentino (once aka Sparse Gray Hackle) yesterday at the dog trainer's. He has a new lab pup, Buster having gone to his reward several years back. has been so busy working that he did not getout once last season.
