In 3 weeks - Truckee area or USac/MCloud/Pit/Fall? 13 Years, 8 Months ago
A buddy and I have our annual fishathon coming up June 21-27. Snow pack, weather and temperatures have us second-guessing our choice of destinations.

If you had to choose, which would you pick:
- the Truckee area (LT, BT, streams and stillwaters)
- the USac/McCrowd/Pit/Fall/Hat area

Much obliged,
PP

Because of the uncertainty of run-off, etc, I think I would be inclined to think Stillwater fishing over streams and rivers at that time period. Several excellent lakes should be open for fishing by then. You might even think a slightly lower elevation lake such as Lake Almanor/Butte Lake for the Hex hatch that might be starting. Check with various shops in the Davis Lake area, etc, for updated information and go from there. Regardless of what you do, please post a report upon your return and good luck/tight lines!!!

Thanks, Charlie!

I'll be up at Almanor/Butt Lake/Creek in early July for the Hex, and then again in early August. But both of those are "family" trips, though, so fishing isn't the primary focus...well, it's not the "family's" primary focus...

We are planning to bring a few floatation methods with us on the June trip (kayak, float tube), just in case we can't find moving water that's low enough and slow enough to at least make for a decent chance of a grab or two.

No matter where we go, I'll post up a report here. I'll include the exact rock #s to stand on for optimal drifts and grabs

This is just a personal opinion but because of the heavy snow pack, etc, it appears to me that you will really be competing with others for any moving water fisheries. But Hat Creek, the Upper Sac, etc, may be your best bets if that's what you want to do. Like I said before, good luck and post a post-trip report.

Charlie S. recommendation is spot on plus you would have relativily close access to several stillwaters.
