The Northern California Fly Fishing Board

I was over to the Trinty River on Tuesday and here are a few things I can report. There absolutely was water in the river, in fact, there was much water in the river. There were absolutely many fishermen around everywhere. The weather was great, the fishing was great, the catching was horrible. I never saw a steelhead or talked with anyone who had seen or hooked one. I did catch a smolt and there seemed to be several of those around.So if I wait three years till those smolt go to the ocean and return the catching should be good.

A little early yet??? Or are the lean years upon us???

Yep a lot of fisherman...I see at least 30 guide boats a day pass by my shop !
I'm guessing since the water temps dropped, the fish aren't moving up to quick.

Oh, it is Fall so I will be over there again next week. I just have to remember that steelhead are the "fish of a thousand casts" so I only have about 700 or 800 hundred left to go.

My Brother is coming over in the morning so we'll finaly get out to chase a few around...I'll report on how we do !

Good luck to you. Isn't today (10/15) when the flow is supposed to go down to 300CFS? Looking forward to your report.
