What a tough day on the river, I fished 5 hrs and not one strike nor did I see any
Steelhead rising to the BWO hatch. I used an assortment of flies that have worked
well in the past and even dropped the tippet to a 5x (so I could loose a few flies..
needed an excuse to get behind the vise anyhow) hopeing the lighter tippet would
help in the low and clear flows but still nobody home...just a tough day !
It was my first trek into this section of river this season and no suprise I did not
recognize most of the runs,only had three boats pass me but I was done when they did
and a group of four walking in as I was walking out...better luck next weekend I hope !

Carpy and I heading to Eagle Lake this week. Hopefully will have something to report and even more hopefully some fish porn instead of pictures of frozen fingers.

That was exactly what I experienced last Thursday. It didn't even seem like the smolts were as active as they have been the last couple of weeks. I will head over later in the week and try my luck again, there is a section of trees that need some more decorating with my flies. Has this rain done any thing to the river color?

Never fished Eagle lake but I know that high desert will be a cold one.
So what patterns are best ? I heard burnt orange buggers stripped over the weeds
in the past worked...one day I'll get over there !

Mitch , we didn't get much out of the last storm so the only change I saw was probaly from all the leaf debris...still pretty much low and clear with a slight tea stain color. My thought is heading down river if I can get a shuttle arranged.

I was actually thinking of staying on the upper river just because I am tired of the long drive.I see the forecast has changed from rain (chance) on Thursday to just clouds.

Monday did a trip down from Rush Creek to Steel bridge with NO action. Guide Travis had us over some really fishy water but nothing was biting. Saw one boat that hooked two but that was it.

Thanks for the info, maybe I will go back to the lower river. I seems like there were more fish three weeks ago, although even then one fish per run was about it.

If I was in that hell hole you guys call home. I would be down between Willow creek and Smoker Falls somewhere. Hoopa should have some fish hanging out near there.
