I think I’m afflicted. After the wonderful trip with Ed K and Paul I was excited about the fishing we had, and especially the fishing we had here in California on our way home. Paul and I are planning another outing next week at the same place so I decided that instead of being short of flies again I would tie a few up in preparation.
Thus, in comes the affliction. First I tied some nymphs. Say a dozen bead head PTs yesterday and today I started and finished the same number of Callibaetis, in size 16 on a TMC 2312. Those looked pretty good so I started on some Callibaetis Emergers tied on a Gamakatsu C15-BV hook…weird shaped hook but it does make for a beautiful emerger. Got engrossed with the project and ran out of hooks, the package only has 25 in it. Hmmmm.
Ok, I have the emergers done, at least for now. So I decide I had better have some duns. So, remembering that the flies that were hatching were smaller than my normal 16’s I decided to use a TMC 103BL in #19. I got a package of hooks tied up so now I have 25 of those. Looking back I did catch some nice fish on the #17s so out comes a fresh package of those. Now I have 25 in that size.
It’s 1 pm and I begin worrying. With this cooler weather we’re having, will it make the hatches change. Have I tied all these flies for nothing (at least for this upcoming trip)?? Dang. I check my boxes and I’m really short of midges. Looking around for midge hooks I find packages and packages of them. I think there are some midge nymphs and dries in the next couple of days. When am I going to get my honey-do’s done????
