Last Oct I got a chance to fish the Klamath and Rogue Rivers. I wanted to fish these rivers for steelies for several years. The girls and I drove to Weed to spend the night there. The next morning I met Craig Nieslen at the Hornbrook Mini Mart, who guided me on the Klamath. I follwed him to the parking spot near the bridge over the Klamath river where I left the girls and my car. Ruby, who is 12 ywars and Vamp who is 13 years are used to this routine. I got in Craig's car and who drove a few miles up the road to a takeout point. Then the fun begain. icaught many steelies and bows on orange bead and stonefly. The hens were mainly caught on the bead while the males were caught on the stonefly. About 1/2 hour before takeout I caught a 8lb jack chinook salmon on the stonefly. He waasn't happy as you can see.
At the end of that fishing day, the girls and I drove to Shady Cove Oregon, where we would spend the next several days. I was to fish the Rogue with my friend Rebecca and guide Todd Ostenson. Rebecca and I are both members of Shasta Mayflies group that had about 12 women fishing the Rogue on this outing. Rebecca caught 6 steelies on that trip with the largest being 4lbs. I only caught 2fish, a gorgeous cutthroat and a steelie. 15 minutes before the trip ended I was rewarded with the a 7lb steelie caught on a orange bead stonefly. This was the largest steelie caught by the group.
Great trip! Can't wait to get back to the Klamath and the Rogue this year.
