Re:Smith River 12 Years, 10 Months ago
Yes indeed it can be a very tough river.

The wife and I visited there last month for a couple of weeks, actually
in Brookings Or. We stopped by the Smith @ Saxtons on Wed 2/22 and up to
Hiouchi later in the day. Briefly at county park, Jed Smith and up to
Gasquet via hardscrabble creek. Water perfect.Big water, Just enough green.

Stayed away for the weekend, as the tournament or whatever was scheduled at SAS.
Tough fishing, met a contractor for DF&G who said the salmon were trying to spawn
in the river vs creeks as to little rain. Noted warning for mudsnails. First for me? I am usually in the area after Xmas for a couple of weeks. Not this late in the season.

Stayed in Harbor and fished Smith, Chetco & Rouge. On balance the water low and was too clear except for the most stealthy of presentations. Got home 3/8/12
