Oregon Roadtrip Q's 11 Years, 9 Months ago
Hi All:
I used to post on the board but haven't in some years. Cool to see lots of the same folks (do people still beat up "Bruce" on the T?) Anyway, I am an avid angler and travel to lots of places, but central and southern Oregon are a bit of a mystery (have steelheaded the Deschuttes) to me. I am taking a road trip in late June from my Nor Cal home and would love to hear some ideas...Please... Buddy and I will have pontoons. Looking, of course, for big heads and minimal people hatch. Any rivers and good floating lakes. Other than a plan to hit the Owyhee (sp?), no plans. I need some seed ideas from folks who know the terrain. Thank you. Thank you so much for sharing Carpy. Some of those places are ones I am considering. Gotta love fishing road trips. Good times. Beer, funky smells and flies all over the truck

The Upper Deschutes just south of Bend is pretty nice. There are some feeder creeks/rivers like Fall R. and the large creek between the two lakes (S. Century Drive goes right over it--it is the place where I cast my first fly, albeit somewhat badly--pulled six nice rainbows out using a couple of flies a game warden gave me. He was driving up the little dirt road and stopped to watch me. Hailed me over to his truck and when I got there he held out his hand and said "here, try these". Two little dark flies. Tied one on and the fish slammed it.)

Also did well on the N. Umpqua R. right below the Steamboat Inn/Lodge.

Yep. Fishin season is gettin ready to crank up, so I'll be postin a bit. Heading up to Wyoming for a loop trip in July. Itinerary: Provo UT, Rawlins WY, Custer SD, Billings MT, Yellowstone, Jackson WY, Provo and then home. Any tips on small to middlin creeks/rivers appreciated.

Heading to Idaho and Montana over Labor Day. Probably fish the Thompson R. near Thompson Falls (feeder to Clark Fork). Anybody ever fish it?
